1 Start moving! Start toning and trimming off those extra winter lbs! If you are not a fan of the gym, as the weather gets warmer, it's easy to get outside and exercise. Take a walk or bike ride on your lunch hour or simply start getting your yard ready for spring. Anything that gets you on your feet and breaking a sweat is a good thing!
2 Regularly exfoliate your entire body. Winter weather can make skin dry and flaky. So, get some body scrub and start sloughing off all that dead dull skin. Apply a great moisturizer to keep your skin soft and glowing.
3 Get a spray tan. Nothing says bikini ready like a great looking tan! So, after you have spent the time exfoliating and moisturizing you body, add a little color. Whether you get a professional spray tan, or you choose a do-it-yourself product, it's the perfect way to slim down your look.
4 Drink plenty of water. Flush out your system and excess water weight by drinking lots of H2O.
5 Finally, choose a bikini that flatters your shape and enhances your best assets. Commit to spending time shopping for right fit and cut. Try on lots of different styles and find out what really works for your body shape. And most importantly--be sure it's the correct size. Nothing will ruin your look quicker than a bikini that is one size too big or one size too small.
With spring just about upon us, the sun will be back out and so will we. It is so very important to protect your skin from those damaging rays and the best way to do that (other than avoiding the sun completely) is applying sunscreen. There are TONS of brands on the market today, but they are NOT all created equal (we know 'cuz we've tried them!) It is important that you are protecting your skin from BOTH UVA and UVB rays simultaneously. Our favorite right now is Neutrogena's newest line: Ultra Sheer Dry Touch with the ingredient HELIOPLEX. It is one of the best sunscreens on the market in it's price range and it's light, non-greasy formula is easy to apply, goes on smoothly under make-up and doesn't cause break outs. So, to all the young Cali Ten shoppers, do yourself a huge favor and start using sunscreen everyday..even when the sun isn't out....and years from now, when people ask you what your secret to looking young is....you can thank SUNSCREEN...and us ;)
A recipe that comes directly from a hair care professional:
2 tablespoons Almond oil, Olive Oil, or Mayonnaise
Contents of 1 capsule of Vitamin E
Combine and blend all ingredients. Apply to your hair and leave in your hair for 20 minutes, or longer if you like:o) I would suggest using a thermal heat cap to help open your hair follicles for deep conditioning. Heat really helps to activate the oils and enables them to be absorbed better. Rinse thoroughly! If you don't have a heat cap, you can use a regular hair cap and just stay warm while you're conditioning. Your hair will feel luxurious! You can repeat this several times a month if necessary.
You can also apply your body lotion to your hair in small quantities to help moisturize your hair. Be sure to run your fingers through your hair during the day too. Oils from your hands transfer to your hair and help to moisturize your hair. Also botanicals and organic hair products have all natural ingredients and are great for your hair. They aren't right out of your kitchen but they are better for your hair than regular hair products.
Another reason hair gets dry and frizzy are the shampoos you use. Typical shampoos sold in super stores have sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate which are base surfactants (foaming agents) that make hair lather when you wash it. However, surfactants are very drying to your hair over time and can break down the hair shaft. Shampoos that don't contain them, are better for your hair for obvious reasons. A good product to try (without sulfates) is Loreal Everpure products. Its priced right and you won't end up drying out your hair unintentionally.
Also, using olive oil or mayonnaise by itself can be used as a simple good moisturizing treatment for your hair in a pinch.
Exfoliation (removing dead dull skin cells) is the key element to glowing healthy skin. There are plenty of facial and body scrubs to choose from on the market. We like Neutrogena's Facial Scrub and ST Ives Apricot Body Scrub. Both work very well and are reasonably priced.
You can also make your own great scrubs from things you probably already have at home. Here are two of our favorites!
DO IT YOURSELF BODY SCRUB
1 cup of White Sugar
1/2 cup of Olive Oil (Almond Oil or Vitamin E Oil work very well too)
**optional- add a drop of fragrance oil
Mix together and use immediately in the shower. Scrub your entire body until you feel the sugar melt away. Rinse off and towel dry. Apply a moisturizer.
DO IT YOURSELF FACIAL SCRUB
2 teaspoons of ground oatmeal
1 teaspoon baking soda
Combine oatmeal and baking soda and stir until mixed. Add drops of water, a little at a time, until you get a paste. Apply to your face, rubbing in a circular motion. Rinse well and pat dry. Apply your favorite moisturizer.
These scrubs are so easy to make and will leave your skin super soft and smooth! Repeat once a week for amazing glowing skin :)
The cold dry weather wreaks havoc on our skin. Dry chapped and flaky skin not only looks unattractive, it can also be very itchy and uncomfortable. Here is a little trick that works like a charm to fight dry skin in the cold winter months:
Things you will need:
1 bottle of baby oil w/aloe
1 generic spray bottle
1. Pour baby oil into the spray bottle.
2. Set the sprayer to mist.
3. Shower but before you dry off, mist your entire body with the oil.
4. Lightly pat dry
5. Apply your favorite body lotion to lock in moisture.
It's as simple as that...and it works!
